Site Meter Reflections on Playboy: My pick for 2006 Playmate of the Year

My pick for 2006 Playmate of the Year

The most memorable Playmates are the ones who haunt your dreams with their sensuality and yet seem like the kind of girl you bring home to Mom. As aware as I am intellectually that there is no inherent contradiction between these two qualities, I’m awed by any woman who gracefully embodies both. Of all the Playmates of 2005, February’s Amber Campisi does it best. If it were up to me, she would become the 2006 Playmate of the Year.

Her Playmate of the Month spread [not work-safe] is a smooth blend of heartwarming and hot. We learn that she works as a manager for her family’s Italian restaurant, which has served Dallas, Texas, since 1946. (The Campisi’s Restaurant website is here.) She takes great pride in her family’s wares: When she visited the Playboy office, says the text, “she hauled in enough oval Campisi’s pizzas to feed the staff.” On her data sheet, she identifies her ambitions as “to help run the family restaurant and one day pass it on to my children.”

But this fine, upstanding young woman is also exciting. She names Sex and the City as her favorite TV show, adding, “I’m Samantha!” (Samantha just happens to be the most uninhibited of the show’s four female protagonists.) In her centerfold, this tanned, shapely Mediterranean beauty takes advantage of the Italian-restaurant theme by holding a red and white checkered apron around her waist in a revealing manner. She wears nothing else but red shoes. In another photo, she’s pouring olive oil down her bare chest and abdomen; the oil accumulates in a puddle where the base of her pelvis meets the kitchen counter. Oh, my.

A recurring element in the drama of the Playmate is how her family reacts to her decision to do Playboy. Campisi is quoted as saying, “My family isn’t too conservative. They expected something like this from me. My dad is putting the Playboy stuff on a wall in the restaurant.” (This quotation comes from the printed magazine, not from an online source.)

If you agree with me that these words and images tell a memorably sweet story, visit this page [not work-safe] to vote for Campisi for Playmate of the Year. Unlike most of the other Playboy.com pages that I link to, this one doesn’t require a paid membership. Best of all, you can vote more than once (wink).

    JTL,

The PMOY is typically featured in the June issue, which is released in early May.

    Hope springs eternal, my dear.

I'd vote for Amber Campisi too. After reading your post, I looked at her pictorial again and she looked even more beautiful.

    Sudheer,
I’m flattered. That means I’ve done my job as a writer.

I have to agree with your choice of Amber as PMOY. Every year it seems that there is one playmate who doesn't fit the mold and this year it was Amber. I also like Christine Smith, but Amber is more naturally beautiful. Sadly, the magazine does not feature the same kind of women it did in the early 80's when I was in High School. Amber reminds me of some of my faves from back then, Karen Price, Kim McArthur, Roberta Vazquez, and my all time fave Patricia Farinelli. Since 2000 it seems the blonde Hefbots have taken over. My faves from the 2000's are the ones that aren't blonde, like redheads Scarlett & Heather, Latina's Rebecca, Miriam & Penelope & African Americans Neferteri, & Nicole. Even the brunettes now all have that plastic look. [I do like Aliya Wolf though, regardless of those horrible implants]

    Anyway, like your blog. John

After almost three months of publication, my blog finally receives a comment from a Playboy aficionado. Please come back, John, and leave more comments.

I believe it’s no coincidence that the Playmates you like best are from your high school years. The teens and early twenties are when most men’s tastes in female beauty are formed. I graduated high school in 1990; I have a particular fondness for the Playmates from about 1987 to 1995. In Lisa Matthews and Corinna Harney, we had two Playmates of the Year in a row with exceptionally sweet girl-next-door qualities to them. I agree that today’s Playmates look a little too much alike, but my hope for Playboy’s future is reinvigorated whenever an Amber Campisi comes along.

From 1987 to 1995 I do have a lot of faves. In my opinion there was a sort of lull between 1985 and 1988 and a peak between 1989 to 1992. IMHO the last great year they had for playmates was 1997. Anyway, no one asked, but here are some of my faves between 1987 to 1997.

    1987: Baker, Konopski, Clark
    1988: Long, Richmond
1989 [An awesome year]: Verkaik, Foster, Jackson [looks like a young Maura Tierney], Cable, Wood, McLaren
1990: McIntaggart, Kendall, York, Marino, Olivia, Driggs
1991 [another awseome year]: Yazel, Dorman, Hamilton, Leardini, Clarke, Kaye, Linssen
    1992: Simpson, Melini, Cantrell, Smith
    1993: Oreskovich, Lavoie
    1994: Adell*, De Los SAntos
    1995: Scott
1996: Sand, Chanz, Boris, K. Taylor
1997 [another good year]: Ferrell, Stevens, Monaco, Thomas, Miriam, Olson, West

Between 1998 and 2005 there are only a few IMHO who meet the level of 1979-1984, 1989-1992, & 1996-1997: Karlsen, Cousino, Voronina, Hill, Gonzales, Carolin, Ramos, Wolf, Keegan, Campisi & Smith

Brian, I realize that my tastes probably only intersect with yours in a few cases, but what WAS great about Playboy was that each year there were beautiful women for all kinds of tastes. Now it seems that IMO if the playmate's implants don't look too horribly fake, then I am happy. [Rebbecca Ramos and Lisa Guerrero are two examples of my idea of good real looking implants]

    * If Traci Addell's assetts were real, she would be hands down my all time favorite, but she still is in my top ten because to me she looks like a cross between young Delta Burke and Tiffani Amber Thiessen.

    Regards, John

Wow, John. Do you have friends who love Playboy as much as you? If so, please tell them all about my blog. If you or they are philosophically inclined, please sample my archives from October and November 2005.

You made lots of good choices in your list. Our tastes overlap more than you seem to think. But you skipped over Miss May 1995, Cindy Brown, an übersweetie in the tradition of Matthews and Harney.

Hi Brian, I added a link on my page to yours. I get maybe 2 to 5 unique viewers a day, so I don't know how much it would help you. My page is: http://southsideofthe5.blogspot.com/ and you wouldn't know it from reading the thing, but I'm not the Right Wing nutjob it seems from that page. Its just that I write about what gets my anger up, so that determines the topics. A friend of mine in the late 80's tried to convert me to libertarianism and some of it stuck. Another way of looking at it is that I am a libertarian on social issues [except drugs] and a Republican on National Defense & Crime & Punishment [pro death penalty]. I support Bush because I hate the people that hate him. Politically, I align closest to Rudy Guiliani, Arnold & Richard Riordan. Here's an old post I wrote about an actress: http://southsideofthe5.blogspot.com/2005/10/unneeded-rhinoplasty-chapter-638-kate.html

Regards, John [Robert Paulson is my nom de internets]

    Robert,

Thanks for the link. I’ve returned the favor.

If you want to know my point of view on almost any political or social issue, read the article about it in Reason magazine. That publication really speaks my language.

2006 PMOY will be Kara Monaco. When I seen her in the June 2005 issue, I knew she would win...she is beautiful without looking too fake.

    Anonymous,
I know it’s you, Kara. I’m sorry I hurt your feelings by picking Amber, OK?

Just kidding, folks. I don’t know who Anonymous is.

Now that it’s been officially announced, it’s not a spoiler anymore: Kara Monaco, Miss June 2005, is the 2006 Playmate of the Year. Though she wasn’t my first choice for the honor, she is a very worthy choice.
